Hi Thank you for visiting my blog. My name is Sue and I live with my lovely husband who I will call Mr V and our nine year old daughter Miss V in a small town in South Devon. Everyone who lives here talks about it as The Village so that will be my blog name- Vintage fron the Village Also in our family are two cats, two guinea pigs some tropical fish and a pond with goldfish I have always loved making things and love pretty vintage things which I hope to sell as well to fund my passion! I am addicted to buying fabric, ribbons, buttons, wool etc and love to visit charity shops and car boot sales.I love glasses of wine, gardening, crochet (easy stuff!) and I am a big E-Bay fan ! I also love to read other people's blogs which inspired me to start my own. I look foward to hearing from you Best wishes Sue

Lovelies revealed !

Hi All
I hope you have had a good weekend.
We have been busy, on Saturday Miss V and I went with some friends to the theatre to see the stage show of Horrible Science which was good fun, lots of 3D effects which the kids loved especially of germs and poo flying at us   mmm nice !
Yesterday we went to Killerton House near Exeter which is a National Trust house and lovely gardens.
There was a classic car show on in the grounds. I felt a bit old as a lot of them were cars I remember our family had when I was a child  such as Hilman Hunter, Triumph Herald and Austin Princess. I suppose it was classic cars not vintage so could have been worse !
The place was lovely, even though Miss V said the best bit was the bouncy castle :(
Today we just went up to the back of 'the Village' to the edge of Dartmoor where we had a thermos of tea in a bit of sunshine.
Anyway back to the subject of the post- on Friday my lovely swap parcel from Viv at Pooh's Abode arrived. It was very exciting as it was my first ever swap.

First was a pretty hand made cardHere are all the parcels wrapped in tissue

Now then, look at these lovelies - a fabric book mark, some fab heart bias binding, a levender heart which smells lovely, lots of ribbons from Patch, lots of buttons in great colurs, some reels of sewing thread - Cath Kidston no less !

A pretty notebbok and pencil and some great fabrics, just my thing thank you !
Miss V, straight away took a shine to the cup cake fabric - oy hands off its mine
So didn't I do well. Many thanks indeed to Viv . Yours is ready to go, sorry for the dalay !!

Off to Barnstaple tomorrow to see my Mum In Law and a trip to our favourite chinese restaurant I think

Best wishes

Thank you for my awards !

Hi Thank you so much to Dosie Rosie and Felt like stitchin who awarded me an award !
It was very kind of you and its my first.
Its taken me a while to work out what to do- I think I have to tell you ten things about myself
I will make a start then

I have only been blogging for a few months, I first discovered it by looking at a magazine advert
for the website for http://www.thisvintagelife.blogspot.com/ and I thought what is a blog? so I had a look at it just snowballed from there !

I married (the present - as Terry Wogan would say!) Mr V when I was 37 and had Miss V when I was 38

I worked at the same company for 22 years before being made redundant in January. I have been itching to do my own thing for a couple of years so it was a blessing really. Although a bit more redundany pay would have helped !!

I was taught to sew and knit and crochet by my Mum who used to sew all our dresses when we were young

I have two younger sisters , one daughter , 2 nieces , one sister in law so we are very girl dominated family (poor Mr V, even all the pets are female)

Sorry to say My Dad and Mr V's Dad both died of cancer

I love car boot sales and charity shops, I buy loads with the intention of selling it but never seem to have enough time to clear the piles before I buy more !

I would love a cottage in the country and a bigger house so I could have a sewing room !

I love eating and drinking outside in the garden (or anywhere) I would hate to live somewhere that didn't even have a balcony

We love our ex-battery hens, even though they do eat my plants !

Is that ten yet? I will probably think of loads more later

I will make a list of lovely blogs to pass the award on to when I get a minute. I really have to get my swaps sorted now.

Have a great weekend

Just a quick one !

Hi All
Just a quick one to say thanks for all your lovely best wishes for Miss V and the chicken pox. (sorry I havn't had chance to reply to them)
Not a good day yesterday but dosed up with Calpol, Piriton and plastered in Calomine lotion she slept quite well and much brighter today.
Anyway my Ebay parcels were piling up so she helped me sort those out and my sister held the fort for 20 mins while I dashed to the post office so I feel a bit more organised now.
Apart from - massive ironing pile, loos etc to clean, BBQ rack still to wash from Sunday :(  etc
I'm looking foward to Junior Apprentice tonight where I think they are making cup cakes - should be good.
Back soon I hope

Come dine with who ?

Hi again
What a lovely sunny weekend that was !
On Friday I had 6 of my friends from where I used to work to my house for  ' Come dine with me'
I expect you have seen the television programme.
Every couple of months or so, seven of us take turns to cook a meal for the others. We all chip in £10 towards the cost and we get a surprise three course meal and as much wine as you can drink !
I am second from the left
We have a great time and its good to catch up as two of us no longer work there and one is on maternity leave so we dont all get together very often.

Anyway I laughed today when taking some photos for Ebay of a pile of crochet patterns -
look at this !

I am sure I could come up with some more exciting dinner dates but I might be missing something ? !

Changing the subject. Miss V has come down with chicken pox !
Its good really I suppose as she is nearly eight and has escaped this long. Nothing much planned for the next week or so, so it's quite good timing I suppose. So what with this week and then it half term for almost a week and a half , I might not make much of a dent in the Ebay pile

Have a good week

help please from Etsy sellers !

Hi
I am listing some things in my Etsy shop which I am getting to grips with - BUT  does anyone know if there is a way to list seperate items , with similar details but all I want to change is eg. beach hut instead of lighthouse?
On Ebay you can just do - 'sell similar item'  but I cant see anything like that on Etsy
I have tried copy and paste but it doesn't seem to work
As a lot of my items are similar but different I am finding it very time consuming to list
If anyone can help that would be great (I have tried Etsy help but no luck)
Thanks ever so much

Dinner lady !

Hello again
I hope you all had a good weekend. I went to a table top sale on saturday but apart from a packet of rock hard homemade biscuits all I bought was a tapestry frame to sell on.
Then I dropped Miss V off at a party and went to a school fair to raid the bric a brac stall. It is in a tiny village and we couldn't park to Mr V reluctantly  was delighted and relieved to stay in the car with the engine running while dashed around the fair.
I bought a big pile of good quality kids clothes to sell on and a few plants all for less than £2 so that was good.
Next we went to a small antiques and collectors fair but that wasn't much good really. I did ask about a small sewing basket full of contents but it was £10 and I thought it was too much.
Yesterday we went to a car boot sale but as it was drizzling there wern't many cars there .
I did get some hard back craft books to sell on though.

Anyway back to the picture of the 'snazzy' red apron, remember I was telling you about the dinner lady job I didn't get?
At 11.45 this morning I had a phone call from the school saying would I like to go along in the next few minutes as they were short staffed I could have a go !
I didn't have time to get nervous thank goodness- off I trotted and I enjoyed it. All a bit strange as I have never worked with kids before and lots to watch out for, anyway I am on the relief list and this week I am working Tues, Wed and Thurs and getting paid !!
I will be having nightmares dreaming of messy yoghurt pots tonight I expect

Have a lovely evening

Charity shop finds !

Good morning to you
Today first thing after taking Miss V to school I had to drop the car to the garage. Its supposed to red but its gradually turning pink much to Mr V's annoyance. So its having a polish with some special stuff to hopefully bring the colour back. Walking back to the 'village' shops was lovely , along the River Erme with the bluebells out, very pleasant.
Next I met my good friend Cathy for coffee, we have met for a coffee almost every Thursday morning since our kids were tiny babies (they're nearly eight now!)
Next I popped in to the charity shop next door to the cafe not expecting much but you never know...
I bought all these things to sell on (hopefully!)

A Karen Millen skirt  (crikey!)
A Laura Ashley skirt
Some baby coat hangers
A full Brownies uniform

For me, a small bag of wool and a wooden coat hanger - I am gradually replacing my horrid plastic hangers with vintage wooden ones. Mostly I only pay about 10p each and they should last forever. I love the ones with hotel names on. Todays is Royal Pier Hotel Weston Super Mare. One of my favourites is from Monte Carlo. I love to think about their history and what tales they could tell .
You probably think I am mad or sad but I like them !
What a good result

Next job was to post the little giveaway parcel to DosieRosie

I hope she likes the things.

I must go now and do the housework I keep putting off
Have a great day

I am older than .....

Hi everyone
I feel old today - for the first time in my life, I am older than the Prime Minister ! only just though he he
Apart form old - I feel cold ! have just put the cental heating on and its only just after lunch. When can I start wearing my ever increasing collection of summer skirts. Perhaps I should wear the jeans underneath ?
Anyway nice post today, amongst the pile was-
The latest Country Living and a Lakeland catalogue - lovely
Just flicking through the magazine while having lunch I spotted this basket £30 in John Lewis.
I got one almost the same from our local tip for £1 !  I used to get quite a few bargains from the tip but they dont seem to sell things anymore for some reason?

I also took delivery of the smallest Lakeland parcel ever, as I had a discount voucher I ordered just a few small things including one of these gadgets to tell when boiled eggs are cooked.
Does anyone know if they work? I know Mr V will roll his eyes and think its a waste of money !

As you know, we have four ex-battery hens and the lovely eggs do vary in size so it puts me off boiling them so anyway we will see how it works.
Whatever you are doing, enjoy the rest of the day. Midweek bottle of wine tonight to look foward to    mmmmmm cheers !

The winner is ......

Hello again
This morning before school, Miss V put all the comment leavers from my give away post into the lighthouse she recently made at the china painting place we like to go to. (we used this instead of a hat obviously !)
In went her hand and out came
Dosie Rosie  is the winner !  so if you would like to get in touch Gill with your address, I will post your little package.
I hope you like the things, it is a bit scary as I havn't done a swap or giveaway before !

I hope the rest of you have had a good day, I went to Legs B-ms and tums, then to hairdressers, then shopping and posting parcels, then helped walk Miss V's school class walk down to the swimming pool and back in the rain, then back to school to collect her again.

She has gone to a friend's house for tea so a few mins blogging time now - phew I was getting withdrawal symptoms being away from the computer for a few hours !

Enjoy your evening

Dum roll please ........

I was going to pick the winner of my little giveaway yesterday but we took Miss V to a kayack taster session on the spur of the moment and the day just went so fast , she loved it and did ever so well considering she was by far the youngest there and it was freezing cold and the water was very choppy - it was under the Tamar Bridge !
Anyway- Mr V has been  hogging the computer  working at home today so I have only just had a chance to write out the names.
Miss V will pick one before school in the morning
I will be back tomorrow with the winner
See ya

Full time at home a bit longer ! and give away on Sunday

Hi All
Bit sad this end as I have just been for an interview for a dinner lady mealtime assistant at Miss V's school and I didn't get it ! people with more experience working with children applied.
Oh well never mind, I just thought it would be a tiny bit of regular money coming in and the hours would have suited my crafting and ebaying perfectly.
Never mind - more time blogging with you crowd ey !

I will draw the giveaway for a small package of my craft goodies from my previous post  'All is revealed  and a giveaway'   on Sunday to give everyone a chance
All comments on that post will go in to the 'hat'

Off to a fashion show tonight run by 'Off the Peg' do you know them? its all brand names with the labels defaced - great fun, very cheap  and a glass of wine :)
Have a great weekend

Up early and reading blogs !

Good morning, just in case anyone thinks I am a bit mad to be commenting on blogs at 7am - Mr V has gone off to be a polling station clerk for the day (need the money to go towards the new telly I was telling you about ha ha !) so I got up with him at 5.50 to make him a cup of tea and stuff a bag with pot noodles etc to keep him going !
Anyway why waste time sleeping when I can be reading blogs
Have a good day

Can I walk past a charity shop without going in test ....

Before I get on to that subject, here are a few more things I have been making. Chicken themed lavender bags and a couple of small fabric gift bags. I  MUST get round to doing some Etsy listing today.
Anyway at the weekend I spent hours sorting out my Ebay stock and all my fabric and trying to sort it out a bit such as
To be listed- photos already taken
To be listed -photos still to be taken
Already listed
Fabric stash
I am a bit more organised in my head but the piles dont look much different and the piles are far too high !
When I woke up in the night thinking about it I made a promise to myself that until 'my piles' have gone down a bit I wont go in the local charity shops and buy any more (car boot sales allowed as they are much cheaper)
So off I went to the Post Office with my parcels this morning, we have 3 charity shops in our town  village
The first one was still closed anyway
I just couldn't resist the other two - I came home with a bag of green felt offcuts, a tiny French sweet tin and a pair of Papaya trousers to sell.
Help- is there a charity shop addicts society anywhere !!  My test failed but good fun

Have a good day

All is revealed ...... and a giveaway !

Hello again, I hope you all had a good weekend.
Yesterday we went to our local garden centre to have a Buy One Get One Free cooked breakfast which was very nice although not at all cheap buy the time we had bought drinks etc- oh well makes a change ey
Next the plan was to go down to The Barbican in Plymouth to see the Jazz and Blues music festival where there was to be a carnival etc that we thought Miss V might enjoy.
I had visions of us sat there in the sun (?) with a glass of wine at a pavement cafe ...
Somehow we ended up in Tesco instead and bought a new television??!! so that took up the rest of the afternoon as we traded in the old one and had to get it into the car and go back to Tesco again. Very nice it is too and all those Clubcard points !

Anyway I said I would show you what I was doing with the fabric strips. Above is a picture of some door hangers I have been  making. I have been making these for quite a while now normally using ribbon as the loops. This time I think the frayed edges go quite well with the frayed edges if the squares. They are stuffed with some polyester wadding and lavender
I will be listing them in my new Etsy shop when I get sorted  for £3.00 each with free postage within UK
or £2.50 to fellow bloggers, message me please if you are interested.
The sea shell ones below are the same prices

I am very pleased to see that I now have 32 followers already, thank you ever so much for following and I love reading your comments.
I think I will have my first give away, everyone who leaves a comment on this post will be entered into a hat or whatever to win a little parcel of my own creations. I look foward to hearing from you as always.

Well |I better do some housework I suppose, Miss V will be home agin before I know it.
Have a lovely evening

Just a very quick post

Hi
Been to a local car boot but weather was very cold and windy and there were only about 8 cars there and 2 of them were my family ! I came home with nothing - shock horror !
Miss V bought a remote control tarantula spider mmmm nice :(   oh well she is delighted with the thing !

Any way, I have had a few enquiries bout the crochet blanket, my Ebay name is Stirfry148  its listed under vintage crochet blanket / throw  if anyone did want a look. Be quick though as it finishes in about 5 hours.

Enjoy rest of the long weekend
