Hi Thank you for visiting my blog. My name is Sue and I live with my lovely husband who I will call Mr V and our nine year old daughter Miss V in a small town in South Devon. Everyone who lives here talks about it as The Village so that will be my blog name- Vintage fron the Village Also in our family are two cats, two guinea pigs some tropical fish and a pond with goldfish I have always loved making things and love pretty vintage things which I hope to sell as well to fund my passion! I am addicted to buying fabric, ribbons, buttons, wool etc and love to visit charity shops and car boot sales.I love glasses of wine, gardening, crochet (easy stuff!) and I am a big E-Bay fan ! I also love to read other people's blogs which inspired me to start my own. I look foward to hearing from you Best wishes Sue

Just popped up to say Hello

Hello

Long time its been too !
It was August the last time I posted and now its October (I think as as sit here in the evening in short sleeves)

Well the school holidays passed very quickly and I started my extra hours at work. Goodness I didn't realise how many hours I used to have to myself. Even though I was always busy building up my sales. I am enjoying the job although its hard working school terms and not being able to have a days leave if I wanted one. Oh well it'll soon be half term. I will get used to it I know its just different and very convenient being within easy walking distance and all the holidays off.

I am getting a bit behind with things and the house is even more untidy than usual. Have been squeezing in reading blogs but havn't been able to get around to posting much at the moment.

Anyway I logged in now to show you the great Seaside Swap parcel I had from Tracy at Mad about Bags I loaded the photos and then it went wrong and they all dissapeared and not still on the camera ! I will have to take some more asap and show you then (obviously less the lovely packaging) sorry about that Tracy

Hopefully back in a day or so

I'm back to blogging !

 Hi All
Long time no speak ey !
All fine here, we have been on another holiday to the lovely Isle of Wight. We went the day after school finished so it was a bit busy that week packing and things.
It was our third year in a row and loved it as much as ever.

A funny thing was though, we had a meal at the 'restaurant' on the site where the caravan was on the first night and we ordered a bottle of wine (of course!) and the bar had run out of glasses so they gave us plastic slush cups to drink the wine from !!

In the end we got some dirty glasses from an uncleared table and washed them in the basin in the ladies toilet - what a start to the holiday. We did have some lovely meals out after that though

Anyway now its back down to earth and the rest of the school holidays
I am trying to get things listed on Ebay and having a big stock clearout with some low start prices to clear the decks a bit
Some Vernon Ward pictures to start with
See here if you would like to

Does anyone remember a doll called Flotti from the seventies?
I had one myself. She came with clothes printed on fabric to be cut out and glued together.
She bought back some memories - may even be mine ?

I have been doing some crochet as well, I will take some pictures to show you soon

Back soon hopefully and I will try and bring some brighter weather - very grey and damp here in Devon today

You never know whats around the corner

Hello again

Well only a week and a bit until the school holidays.
I have been quite busy this week doing housework and tidying up - shock horror !

We go on holiday soon so I have been winding down the Ebay and doing other things instead...

Carpet shampooing this morning- very satisfying job once I get around to it. In our house we dont have a hallway that goes through to the kitchen and the back of the house which means all the traffic goes through the lounge - not good with a cream carpet, two cats and lots of kids in and out (J's friends - I only have one )
Anyway it looks better now

Also the big news is .... apart from my meal time assistant job at Miss V's school, as from September I will be a teaching assistant every morning !!

I was very pleased to be offered the job as I have only worked there properly since January.

Its going to be a big change as since I was made redundant (well I volunteered to go but only got basic minimum redundancy pay after 20 years loyal service) I have been working hard selling on Ebay and building up Vintage from the Village

I am going to have a lot less time so I dont know what to do with all my stock which is sat in huge piles around my ears as I write this

Options

A- Spend what free time I get in the school summer holidays clearing it on Ebay
B- Carry on setting up my own Website (but I dont know if I will have enough time to market it to drive enough customers to it

As much as I am looking foward to the school challenge I love my selling so desperate to keep something going

Any suggestions please or your thoughts

I may do a few little give aways as well
With love

Ten - how many ?

Hello again,  well Mr V and I have reached our ten year wedding anniversary today !
You may wonder havn't I got better things to be doing than blogging but Mr V has gone to a school governors meeting and Miss V is out playing with a friend so here I am.
We celebrated last weekend with two nights away. The first in Porthleven, a traditional Cornish fishing village. The rain was pouring down ! we stayed at a B&B right by the harbour and chose this lovely little restaurant for our evening meal (see above)
There were some lovely little shops to browse around in the morning. Then we travelled a few miles to Falmouth for the second night
Some beach hut shops
This is where we stayed The Royal Duchy Hotel  our room was the two windows with blue canopies on the left - very posh it was too  we even had the swimming pool to ourselves !

Anyway , back to reality now !
Off to cook tea and get Miss V off to bed before sitting down to The Apprentice with a bottle of Champagne we were given as a present and have been saving
Enjoy your evening

Could anyone help with translation please? presumably something like Goodnight?
They are very pretty and brand new

If anyone could help that would be great

Off now to watch Restaurant Inspector with a glass of wine and a slice of orange cake I made earlier (more about that another time)

Covered in roses - Cath Kidson ones !

 Hello again

Hope you have all had a good week. It has flown by here, probably because it was no school on Monday.

Anyway last weekend Mr V and I had a child free weekend so off we went to Bristol
First we went to a antiques and vintage fair at the West of England University just outside Bristol at their Frenchay campus
I bought an apron to sell on and Mr V bought a coin for his collection. It was quite good and reasonable prices, a lovely location in a new spacious conference centre, a huge cafe area and no crowds. Would go again even though quite a long way from here.

The main reason for heading 'up north' was to spend my Cath Kidston voucher I had for my birthday back in March

We found a nearby car park  (thank goodness for sat nav!) and the shop stood there in all its glory and I could have almost anything I wanted  yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Look at my rosy stash ! a rucksack, purse, ironing board cover, face flannel, tape measure, shoe bag, beaded food covers and some tissues
What a lot I got !
My ironing board must be small because the cover is huge and covers the grey flat bit at the end as well ?
A lovely day out we had.
On the Sunday I went to a local car boot sale and then to Tesco for breakfast (we know how to live!)  then across the moors to Yelverton to Buckland Abbey
we stumbled on another car boot sale on the way - perfect !
Yelverton is a fairly posh plcae and it was one of those lovely boot sales with people who dont do them very often selling nice things instead of plastic toys (car boot snob I am)
I bought loads of table cloths and things and have been very busy washing and ironing it all....
We finally arrived at Buckland Abbey (a National Trust house where Sir Francis Drake lived)
It was a Jaguar and Aston Martin owners club day and there were some lovely cars there -
one day ey !!??

We had a look around and drooled over the cars and the gardens. Lots more roses to look at and one of my favourites - Love -in-a-mist. I had this in my wedding bouquet and saved the seed and have it in my garden every year from those original wedding flowers

Also I managed to squeeze in a bit of sewing, making some   Thank You Teacher gifts to sell and for Miss V's teachers
Last but not least I have huge pile of Crochet Monthly magazines which I am selling for just 90p start price on

I'm off too ...........

Hi again

Well its June already and half term is almost over already. As I work in a school it has been a week off work for me too - lovely
I have still been getting up to make Mr V's packed lunch and seeing him off to work but its nice not to have to watch the clock all the time

Anyway, Miss V has gone off on her first ever visit to London, my Mum and sister have taken her and one of my nieces for a couple of days, so we have a child free weekend coming up.

On Saturday we hope to head up to Bristol to Antiques and Vintage fair at the West of England University
I dont know much about the event or the location, we just found it on the internet

While we are up in that area I still have my Cath Kidston vouchers that I luckily got for my birthday in March. The nearest shop to here is St Ives and its tiny so I'm hoping the Bristol one will be bigger.

I'm not sure what lovelies to choose yet but I am hoping for a purse and an ironing board cover

mmm - which one to choose though ................

Hoping there is a bench outside to park Mr V on while I savour the time in there

I saw this notice outside a pub recently - great ey ?

So I will be back soon to show you what I came home with

Tuesday 24 May 2011

This week I have mostly been buying .......

Another crochet necklace from girlybunches I love these and this is my third one. Specially ordered colours to go with my new top
Some pretty floral gift tags and needle case from Gill at the Vintage Gardener
Some more parcel wrapping tape from Dots and Spots I cant go back to using brown tape now I'm hooked on this !

A crochet pattern booklet now listed on my Ebay along with more unusual crochet patterns and lots of Nintendo DS games I am selling to raise some money for Miss V to spend when she goes on a trip to London soon
Todays charity shop finds - A white tunic thing made from a sheet to put away for school dressing up days Christmas plays etc. I made one when Miss V needed an angel costume years ago and she has just outgrown it. So a very useful find for 50p

A pair of unused blackout curtain linings. We take these when we go to caravans as the curtains are always so thin. No - I am not so sad as to fit them properly, we just sort of pin them up with clothes pegs

A brand new duvet cover from Debenhams with £35 price label on the packet. I paid £1.50
Miss V may like it or it will be destined for Ebay

And last but certainly not least - I won the giveaway from Mary Poppins
Sorry the picture is sideways again ! A lovely Rosie Flo fashion show play set and one of her pretty hearts
Thank you Mary

Well I had better go and do some bits, Miss V has her school disco tonight and I am helping with the PTA
(must be mad, as if I dont see enough of them all at lunch times!!)

Enjoy the sunshine

Sue x

Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to .........

Sorry the pictures are sideways, not a good start ! They were rotated before I uploaded them ?
Have a lie down and they will look ok

Mr V and Miss V were booked in to have a surfing lesson at a lovely beach near here in the South Hams called Bigbury
You may of heard of Burgh Island where there is a famous art deco hotel
Off they went for a two hour lesson. I was very very windy but they got on well. I watched for a bit and occupied myself on the beach quite happily with this selection
I quite fancy getting one of these flats (mmm where is that lottery ticket)
After that we went home rather wind battered for roast chicken and a bottle of wine of course

Back soon with another post

Morning has broken, blackbird has spoken..........

 Well Hello at last
Where have the last few weeks gone (again) I thought it was a couple of weeks since I posted but it looks like almost a month!

We had a weekend in Liverpool with some friends who live there which was very nice. Got a good deal at a Premier Inn , did a ferry across the Mersey etc

Then it was Easter weekend - didn't feel very Eastery this year as it was so late and all the daffodils and even the tulips were long gone and the weather was more like July ! Anyway very nice.
Then of course it was the wedding weekend - I watched every bit from 8am and loved it all.
Mr V went off for a walk on Dartmoor to escape
Anyway back to the subject, our neighbours had already told us there was a blackbirds nest in the honeysuckle bush on our dividing fence but yesterday morning I was woken up very early to tiny cheeping sounds. Then all day the Daddy blackbird was back and foward with worms and things so I think the eggs must have hatched. You ought to have heard all the noise ! You can see him on the decking in the top photo.

While I had the camera out I thought I would show you a few photos of my kitchen windowsill !
(If any of my 'normal' friends are reading - look away now or you think I am mad !)
This windowsill started as a bit of a little display area for bits as I havn't got a dresser and when Miss V was little it was the only place she couldn't reach. It has carried on from there and changes week by week depending on what I find

A lovely alium flower from my garden, I have lots of these, they look so nice against the green of the garden plants but also looks good in the old blue bottle I think. It was in the lounge but Mr V kept saying it had a strange smell so it been banished to my space !
My herb pots I had for my birthday - doing well so far but the pots dont have drainage holes so not sure if they will be very long term

Well its good to back, I have been reading everyone's posts but now I have gor round to writing one thank goodness.

I have lots of cross stitch and tapestry kits on my Ebay here if you are interested including a lovely Ehrman one

Back soon

First car boot of the year !!

Yippee  the car boot sales have started !
I went to my first one on Saturday, didn't get there until about three hours after it started but it was still very enjoyable and perfect weather
Some old bottles to put flowers in and a lovely old trowel. I wonder what stories it could tell?
Some china pots, bells and egg cups (to sell on)
A pretty blue necklace for 75p which I am wearing now (as if I dont have enough necklaces!)
Some vintage pastry forks and fabric jam pot covers (to sell on)
A brand new O'Neill surfy bag with tags £1
A crinoline lady table cloth - a bit marked but only 20p

There, not a bad stash really

Have been sorting out mine and Miss V's summer clothes today so will be listing loads on Ebay tonight hopefully

Have a great week
