Hi Thank you for visiting my blog. My name is Sue and I live with my lovely husband who I will call Mr V and our nine year old daughter Miss V in a small town in South Devon. Everyone who lives here talks about it as The Village so that will be my blog name- Vintage fron the Village Also in our family are two cats, two guinea pigs some tropical fish and a pond with goldfish I have always loved making things and love pretty vintage things which I hope to sell as well to fund my passion! I am addicted to buying fabric, ribbons, buttons, wool etc and love to visit charity shops and car boot sales.I love glasses of wine, gardening, crochet (easy stuff!) and I am a big E-Bay fan ! I also love to read other people's blogs which inspired me to start my own. I look foward to hearing from you Best wishes Sue

Nearly 50 ? !

Hi again
No not me nearly 50 (but no that many years to go boo hoo ) I have 48 lovely followers !
I am so pleased, if I have 50 by the time I come back from holiday I will have a little give away of the magazine I was talking about, might be a bit dog eared and filled with sand by the time you get it but that will add to its vintage character !
Dont put you names down yet or I will get in a muddle, I will let you know in a couple of weeks or so.
The picture is Miss V who at the moment cant walk more than about ten steps without doing a hand stand or cartwheel !
Mr V's birthday today, his present(from generous mum in law)  was a blu-ray player and speakers etc which was delivered and installed (thank goodness) first thing this morning, only downside is , it has a big black speaker box mmm I half jokingly suggested I make a patchwork cover for it but it didn't go down too well!!  I wont say any more though as he did want 5 flippin speakers and didn't choose that one as I didn't want them on the walls
Anyway, big chinese takeaway tonight and compulsory wine - lovely

Enjoy the rest of the weekend

I have gone dotty already !

Good afternoon to you, well thats the first day of the school holidays well underway. Normally Miss V doesn't really want to get up in the mornings but today she was raring to go at 7.20 - typical !
So as planned (but a bit earlier) we set off to Plymouth , on the bus for a change making it a bit more of an adventure.
Did a bit of shopping for Miss V - new trainers and flip flops. The flip flops were only £1 in Primark so I splashed out and got the trainers in good old Clarks, I do find they look good longer than cheapos and I normally get a few pounds for them afterwards on Ebay !!
Had a sandwich and drink in M&S , then got the bus home. 5 mins peace now while she is out playing with a friend  phew !

By the way the dotty bit is a lovely bag I bought in a lovely shop in Totnes called Gazebo, I thought we could keep some of our beach stuff in it. Looks a bit Cath I thought !

Talking of Cath, I made a cushion for my Lloyd Loom chair this week and while I was doing that I realised I have several matching items

My lovely radio, a knitting bag and a sewing basket, the floppy thing that looks like a bag is a cover for my door stop I made as well.
A new magazine I ordered arrived today  Vintage Life nostalgia magazine

I saw it on the internet somewhere so ordered one to see what its like, looks fab and I cant wait to have a proper look. I may get a subscription if its any good.
Has anyone else read it ?

Did anyone see Dragons Den this week and that great idea of vintage tea parties called Vintage Patisserie, she was great and I am pleased she got some money.
Well I better get on with some stuff, I have to go to a dancing club party with Miss V tonight miles away and I dont know where I am going and I
(in a stroppy voice) DO NOT WANT TO GO !
I want to stay at home with a bottle of wine
Oh well - perhaps I could take my new magazine and read it under the table
Have a great weekend

Just a quick question?

Hi
Hopefully I will be back later with a proper post but I was just reading some blogs and noticed a couple have messages on the header saying the blog backgrounds will disappear tomorrow ??
Is it something real, scared to click on it in case its a virus or something?
Has anyone else come across it ?
Have a good day - last day of peace today before the school holidays !

Tea for two

Well hello again, hope you all had a good weekend. I did as it included not one but two car boot sales (child free - even better!)

The first one had about twenty cars I suppose, didn't buy much apart from a lovely embroidered vintage table cloth - bargain at 50p

The second sale at a nearby location which as far as I know have never held one before only had about four cars. (shame they picked the same morning as the one round the corner)
anyway there was an old lady there with whom I spent £9 !
I forgot to take photos though, I got a bakelite knitting wool holder, a necklace, some cottage embroidered chair backs,a Beswick Beatrix Potter ornament (very slightly cracked but nobody will notice in my cabinet!)  and a felted woolly bag.

Mr V and I started collecting the Royal Albert Beatrix Potter figures before Miss V came along when we had time to spend Sundays leisurley wandering around antique fairs with money to spend ! Now I am lucky if I grab an hour at a car boot sale with about tenner to spend and most of that is stock to sell on  he he

Anyway, back to the tea cups- today I went on my trip to the post office and my normal routine of the 3 charity shops but as I said previously one of them was closing down and true enough today it was gone sob sob.
I did find this lovely set of two cups and saucers in one shop though
(will be appearing on Ebay st some stage if I can part with them?)
Also found this wall vase the other day

I had a last minute order today for a thank you teacher bookmark so out came the sewing machine and sorted that and also made one for Miss V's teacher and some lavender bags to go to the teacher and teaching assistant.
Here they are wrapped up ready to go to school

Today is when I reluctantly have to wind down the Ebaying as our holiday is coming up. I will feel really strange but it will probably do me good to have a break. Lots of items finishing in the next few days to give them chance to be paid for and posted

Well I had better go- Who do you think you are with the lovely Bruce Forsyth is on in a minute
Have a great week

' Tray' chic !

Hello again, nearly the middle of the week already !

Only one week and a bit until Miss V breaks up for summer hols, she has had 'meet the teacher ' today and all seems fine thank goodness.

I have been posting crochet patterns out all over the place including two to Australia so they have nearly all gone now

I have just listed a few more things on Ebay before I start on the knitting pattern pile.

I am not sure how to do a link to my Ebay (do get in touch if you can shed any light on that one?!)  anyway I am Stirfry148

Also talking of links, I see Gill at Dosie Rosie is doing a great giveaway of a lovely book called Buttons and Beads

I found out yesterday that one of our three local charity shops is to close down next week boo hoo sob  - its the cheapest one as well so thats sad news

It is pouring with rain here and due to do so for the next few days, I hope it dries up for Sunday as I have seen  TWO  car boot sales advertised in 'the village' on the same morning and both are in fields
Oh well I better think about doing some tea I suppose
I am sure I had more to tell you but my mind has gone blank for the moment
Back soon

Are you an old bag - or not ?

Hi Just a quick post before the weekend, the week seems to have gone so fast. Mr V has had two days off so have been swanning around rather a lot !
What do you think of this bag I got last week in a charity shop ? Looks a bit Cath but I am sure its not as the lining is a bit nylony. Probably came from Primark as is new but I like it !

I may just use it tonight when it is the next 'Come Dine With Me' meal at my good friend Leah's house. It's such a relief now mine is done and I can look foward to the other six meals !
I am saying the night at my Mums as it near to where she lives and I can get lifts easily, so I will be packing my bag in a minute for a night in a lovely clean tidy peacefull house, shame I will be probably a bit too sozzled to appreciate it !!

The crochet patterns are selling well, there are some still going so hop on over to Ebay  Stirfry148 if you like.
Just got lots more knitting patterns and needles so I will make a start on them next week. IF anyone wants any particular size of crochet hook or knitting needles, do get in touch and I will happily do a little swap or something.

Anyway I better go, if I can get sorted here,  there is a school fair later I may be able to drop in to and raid the bric a brac stall on the way to my Mums

Have a great weekend

Look at these Sweethearts in their crochet !

Hi again (twice in one week!)

Thanks to you all who sent anniversary messages, Mr V will be home tonight after 4 nights away on a work course. He very rarely goes away so it was a bit strange. Anyway the wine is in the fridge and I bought a few extra bits in M&S to go with our Friday night curry

Just finished listing my pile of crochet patterns on Ebay (Stirfry148) so thats one job completed. Look at the children, dont they look sweet ? The boy I think looks a bit like the little lad who lives next door so I may show his Mum before I sell it (hopefully!)
Oh by the way, I was quite impressed with the crochet magazine. I thought £7.99 was a bit steep but it did come with 6 balls of wool. I have been learning how to do some flowers, will show you when I have practiced a bit more

It is a lot cooler today - just right really. We had lots of rain overnight, luckily Miss V had her school sports day in the morning before it started.

Well I better go and do the hoovering etc or Mr V will think I have been sat here blogging all week (surely not ey !!? )
Car boot sale to go to on Sunday if not rained off, fingers crossed as not been to one for weeks and not much in the charity shops lately

Whatever the weather - enjoy your weekend
